Happy 4th of July!

Thanks to Ms Kristy we had a busy craft day, I gave all the girls the "Glitter Treatment" on their toes and the Girls Tied their cute flip flops.

How did they make them?
$1.00 Wal Mart Flip Flops
6 inch pieces of ribbon (no that is not an Elf joke its really is 6")
 We found that if you don't double knot they come off and we should have put  "fray glue" on the ends so they will not fray.

Don't you want your kids to have fun like this at day care?

Summer Wallet

I needed a new wallet,

 PATTERN: I will be referring to these pieces as A, B, or C

PLEASE NOT IT SHOULD BE CUT 4

MATERIALS NEEDED:
1/2 Yard of material (I used some scraps that I had, preferably two colors)
1/4 Yard medium interface
Pins
Sewing Machine
Iron


DIRECTIONS:
1-Cut out all fabric according to pattern. Iron if needed.

2- Start with Pattern C. Hopefully you cut 4, separate into to piles. With Right sides together sew 3 edges together leaving the bottom open. Right side out and set aside.

3-Take section B, separate into two piles: 1 interface, 2 fabric/pile. Place fabric right sides together, then the interface, pin, sew 3 edges, leaving the bottom open, right side out and set aside.

 4-Take 1 Piece of C and 1 Piece of B, center C on top of B. Sew 3 edges leaving top open, it is ok that the bottom is unfinished.

5-Take the second piece of C and sewing it on the same B piece as the other lining it up with the bottom. Leaving the top open and the raw edges sew together at the bottom.

6-Take Fabric from A, Place in the following order, fabric right side up, interface, fabric right side down to it is like a sandwich with the right side face out. Pin "B" to both sides of "A" as shown below. Sew the bottom and the edges together leaving the middle open. Right side out.

 

 7-If for any reason the you have an unfinished seem in the middle of your wallet tuck your seem inward and make a small stitch.


Congrats you are all finished!



Flower Necklaces

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

Scrap material, in strips of 1" thick and 12" long, (I used black chiffon and gray satin)

2" X 2" cut squares, preferably the same color as other material

Necklace chains (I got mine from Michael's)

Hot glue gun

Thread that will match the color of chain and a small needle that will fit through the bead.

Beads (Also from Michael's)

 Cut your strips, then iron them in half so they are now 1/2" wide.

 Put a dot of hot glue in the center of the 2" X 2" square. Roll up your 1/2" strip about 3 times and place on hot glue with fold side showing up and raw edges on hot glue. Drawing a spiral with your hot glue, about an inch at a time, place your strip on top of it.  Continue with the spiral until the strip is complete.

 My completed flowers. Once they are all done, trip the 2" X 2" square tightly around flower.



















To get my positioning correct lay out my chain and hot glue the flowers onto it. I then hand stitch the chain to the necklace to secure each flower.



















If you want to add some beads to your chain thread your needle through the bead. Just before you pull your thread all the way through the bead, place a dot of hot glue on the bead to secure the thread.

I am using gray thread so you can see it on the necklace but make sure to match the thread to the color of your chain. Sew the bead to the chain on where you would like it.

Continue sewing beads until you have your desired look.

My dog Baloo was nice enough to model this necklace.

Modge Podge

This is a how to those 9" card board letters.

What you need:

Card board letters (you can get at any craft store)

Mod Podge Satin, or Matte finish what ever you prefer

12x12 scrap book paper (number of letters should equal number of papers)

A foam brush

Any items to glam up your letters (Ribbon, buttons, pictures, etc)

I laid the paper out over my letters to make sure the patterns would work first.

Then trace out your letter on the back of the paper so you know where to cut it and fold it. Mod Podge both the

paper and the letter.

Then modge the front of the letter.

Let tet dry over night before adding detail to them. Do not stack on top of each other, or they will stick.

Ages. I had my 13 year old nephew, 4 1/2 year old and 15 month and they ALL loved it!

When mixing just use your hands so much easier that trying to stir

Faux-Canvas prints!

What you will need.

Picture (we did 12x12) $2.99 at Costco
Wood- We used a 2x4 MDF the was 3/4" thick $10.12 (makes 8 12x12 pieces)
Mod Podge Matte finish for Top of Photo (we used the gloss to glue the pic to the board only because we had 2   bottles between us and the Matte was half way gone and we wanted to save it for the top)
Foam Brush (we used a 2") $.67
Spray Paint $3.44
Picture Hanger  $1.94

First Choose your Photo, if you are cropping your photo in your photo editing program crop to the size your are going to print. I did a "custom" crop of 12x12.  A unique shape for a picture and I think a perfect square looks so nice in a group of pictures.

Print Picture.
We uploaded to Costco and had them print a 12x12 for $2.99 we did a lustre finish

Get Wood
Home Depot grab your piece of MDF 2x4 and take it back to the "Cutting Center" ask for 8 12x12 pieces. They may tell you that you will loose and 1/8 or so with each cut but ours turned out just fine

We sprayed the sides and edges of each board

Make sure Photo fits nicely on board, trim any over hang

Apply the Mod Pod-ge to the board AND the back of the Photo (paying special attention to the sides) press

firmly, we used an old cotton T-Shirt to press down

This is the Brave part

Use a new foam brush and apply Matte Finish Mod pod-ge

Use a good amount of glue so you can pull down the length of the photo

Let them Dry

 

Attach Picture Hanger to back

The nails are so tiny I use a needle nose to hold them in place to hammer in

Hang and Enjoy!

The total cost per picture was about $7.00

Which if you compare to Costco's $40.00 for canvas print PLUS $30.00 to ship

this is pretty much the greatest DEAL ever!

SnowMan Kit

Ok now that I have given this gift I can post about it! G was so excited to give a gift that she can use!
This fun little kit went to her Pop and Grandma



SNOWMAN KIT

1 Black Hat
1 Red Scarf
2 Rocks eyes
1 carrot Nose
Handful of rocks for a mouth
3 tin buttons
2 sticks for arms
2 mittens

***Just add Snow

Found the hat and scarf at the store
I hot glued tin lids from canning jars and painted them Black for buttons.
Found some rocks (in my neighbors yard!) and painted them black also.
The carrot nose was hard to find (I wanted a fake one) I looked at a couple stores and ended up finding it at Hobby Lobby.
Mr Safety cut some branches of our tree for arms.
I think it turned out cute, a fun gift for someone who gets to live where it SNOWS!
